Seafront houses and flats
Facing the sea, with outdoor kit that has to survive salt spray and wind.
From the Victorian streets of Liscard to the seafront by Fort Perch Rock, homes and businesses that take the full force of the weather.
Tap a house to switch its lights, or a landmark to find out more.
New Brighton grew as a Victorian seaside resort, and its seafront is busy again with restaurants, bars and the Floral Pavilion. Fort Perch Rock and its lighthouse guard the mouth of the Mersey, and the wind farms turn on the horizon. Behind the promenade, Liscard and Egremont are full of big Victorian and Edwardian houses, many converted to flats.
Two things shape our work here: salt air, and a lot of hospitality and rented property. Outside, we fit sealed, marine-grade fittings. Inside, we do rewires, EICRs, emergency lighting and fire alarms for flats, cafes and bars.
About 9 miles by road from Carl's base in Spital, usually around 20 minutes in the van.

Slide forward a few winters to see the difference the right kit makes.
Ordinary kit by the sea: Cheap fittings let damp in round the glass and the salt pits the metal, so the light starts to flicker or trip the circuit within a few winters.
What Carl fits: IP65 or higher, marine-grade stainless or powder-coated aluminium, with a sealed gland where the cable enters.
Ordinary kit by the sea: Spring lids stop sealing, and salt bridges the contacts, so the RCD trips every time it rains.
What Carl fits: An IP66 socket with a lockable lid, mounted at a sensible height and RCD protected on its own circuit.
Ordinary kit by the sea: Rust runs from cheap brackets and screws, and the housing fogs inside.
What Carl fits: Cameras rated IP66 or IP67, a sealed junction box and stainless fixings.
Ordinary kit by the sea: The charger itself is fine outside, but poorly sealed cable entries let water in.
What Carl fits: A sealed charger, a properly glanded supply cable, and a position out of the worst spray if you have the choice.
Ordinary kit by the sea: Zinc-plated screws rust within months on the front, and the stains run down the wall.
What Carl fits: A4 (316) stainless fixings and brackets throughout.
Ordinary kit by the sea: Connections in the ground corrode and fail.
What Carl fits: IP68 connectors, sealed transformer housings and buried armoured cable.
