Georgian houses on the Parade
Listed or in the conservation area: discreet cable routes, period-friendly fittings and careful work outside.
Parkgate's Georgian seafront, Neston's old market town and the cottages of Ness and Burton, looking out across the Dee marshes to Wales.
Tap a house to switch its lights, or a landmark to find out more.
Parkgate was once a busy port for ships to Ireland. Today its Parade faces a sea of salt marsh rather than water, with painted Georgian houses, black-and-white cottages and the famous ice cream shops, all within a conservation area. Neston, just up the hill, is an old market town with a sandstone parish church, terraces and newer family estates around it.
Older homes here need a gentle approach to rewiring, and anything on the front of a house on the Parade needs thought. Further out in Little Neston, Ness and Burton we do a lot of family upgrades: EV chargers, garden lighting and smart controls.
About 6 miles by road from Carl's base in Spital, usually around 15 minutes in the van.

Urgent fault in Neston? What to do now, and how quickly Carl can usually come
What the houses here are like, and what they usually need.
Listed or in the conservation area: discreet cable routes, period-friendly fittings and careful work outside.
Low ceilings and thick walls. We use existing voids and surface routes that blend in.
EV chargers, garden lighting and smart heating for the newer estates.
Tap the spots on the cottage to see what usually needs listed building consent, and how Carl keeps the work discreet. This is general guidance: always check with Wirral Council's conservation team before work on a listed building.
Nine common jobs on a listed home, from outside lights to the loft.
A new or replacement light on the front of a listed home usually needs listed building consent. A like-for-like swap is the easiest to agree. Carl can suggest fittings that suit the period and run the cable inside the wall.
A charger on a listed building is very likely to need consent, especially on a wall facing the street. A rear or side wall, a garage or a post on the drive away from public view is far easier to agree.
Avoid them. Cables clipped across a historic front spoil it and are rarely approved. Carl routes everything inside, through floors, lofts and existing voids.
Replacing old wiring along existing routes is often fine, but chasing historic plaster, cutting into panelling or removing original features may need consent. Carl plans routes to avoid disturbing historic fabric.
A new consumer unit in the same place is normally straightforward. Moving the meter, or anything on the outside wall, needs more thought.
The loft is usually the best route for new upstairs circuits, with neat, clipped cable runs away from timbers that are part of the original structure.
A dish or new aerial on a listed building generally needs consent and is rarely approved on a street-facing roof. A loft aerial or a fibre connection is often the better answer.
Low-level lights in a rear garden are usually fine, but fixing them to historic walls or boundary walls may need consent. Spike lights and posts avoid the walls altogether.
Essential for safety, and normally fine. Slim interlinked alarms fixed to the ceiling, not to ornate plaster, keep them discreet.
Guide only. Sizes, ratings and requirements depend on your property. Carl confirms everything at a survey and in your written quote. About this information
Yes. Changes to the outside of homes there, such as new lights, cameras, chargers or cables on the front, may need permission, and listed buildings need consent for more. Check with Wirral Council's conservation team before you start. Carl plans work to be as discreet as possible.
Only if they're the right ones. Wind off the marsh brings damp and salt, so Carl uses sealed, corrosion-resistant fittings and stainless fixings.
Yes, all of the CH64 villages, including Willaston.
I would absolutely recommended Carl, I asked him to install new sockets, outdoor security lights, smoke alarms and pendant lights. Carl was extremely professional and explained things to me to help me understand whilst having vision about what looked good. … I'm so happy with all the work that he has done, it looks truly amazing.
